Japanese Movies

All fans of animation know the name Hayao Miyazaki, and have their beloved favourites from the works of his Studio Ghibli. There are many important films along the way, but all journeys must begin at the first step, and for Miyazaki, it was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

Considered to be his "Life's Work", this post apocalyptic adventure was first published as an ongoing Manga series and was lovingly written and drawn by Miyazaki himself.  The story is set a thousand years after a great war, in a seaside kingdom known as the Valley of the Wind.  One of the only areas that remains populated, the people of the Valley constantly struggle with powerful insects called ohmu, who guard a poisonous jungle that is spreading across the Earth.

The courageous Princess Nausicaä and her brave companions strive to restore the bond between humanity and the earth.
With its strong environmental themes and brave, powerful female protagonist, Nausicaa truly set the tone for the wonderful works of fantasy of Studio Ghibli.
